I have recently moved from a home by the ocean to one more inland, and I am shocked at the large squirrels that are everywhere.  They have already eaten half of the daffodil bulbs I have planted, and I am going to try hot pepper powder mixed with the bird seeds.  What can you suggest to get rid of these pests?

Joe_in_Missouri writes: A high powered pellet gun can also do wonders with squirrels.

Speaking of tree rats a rat trap nailed to the side of a tree and baited with peanut butter works also. What could be better than fresh vegetables roasted with some fresh squirrel?

Janni writes: It is most unusual for squirrels to eat daffodil bulbs as the bulbs are poisonous. The squirrels do love tulip bulbs though.

Carolleone writes: R u sure squirrels r eating ur daffodils? I never have the pests (and they r just THAT) eat daffodils. They do however, eat other bulbs, so I often surround tulips, for example with daffodils. I watched a video about squirrel invasions, which concluded it is almost impossible to stop all damage. Sheesch. I do know that, if u plant ur bulbs in wire cages, squirrels cannot get to them. Do not put accessable bird feeders with black sunflower seeds, fill them with safflower seeds that squirrels do not like, but birds do. Save ur sunflower seed feeders for those hard to reach - squirrels are oportunists and might just bypass ur yard for other easier yard banquets. Hope some of this helps.

asseenintheyard writes: cats also like squirrels. Try not to be too friendly with them as they will nest inside your house and make a mess, they will chew through your feeders (rendering them useless) and dig around your foundation (looking for a quick way in). For me they are cute to look at but they are still tree rats.
