I can’t think of a single organic gardener who wouldn’t want to spend some time in the Peaceful Valley catalog. The beautiful illustrations are worth the visit on their own, but the catalog is also a complete organic gardening resource.

Since 1976 Peaceful Valley has help organic gardeners find seeds, supplies, products and advice for natural and sustainable methods of gardening. Between the catalog and website there are more than 5000 products to choose from.

The company, based in Grass Valley, Calif., offers only certified organic seed with many of these being heirloom varieties. Any hybrid seeds are clearly marked.

The catalog includes complete descriptions for every vegetable and also offers tips for planting, growing, harvesting and storing. There are also some interesting bits of trivia. For example, did you know North Dakota is the leading producer of beans in the United States?

As informative as the catalog is, anyone interested in organic gardening should take a tour of Peaceful Valley’s online home. The website has how-to-garden videos, articles, recipes, and an assortment of organic growing guides. Readers can also sign up for a weekly newsletter.

Peaceful Valley has over 600 products for organic gardening. The catalog includes planting mediums and amendments (including the company’s own blends), speedling trays, tools, irrigation supplies, and products for pest control. I really like the idea of the heavy-duty Red Dragon weed flamer that destroys weeds quickly and easily.
