Tomato Location

I garden in a plot at my community garden, therefore, my space and options are limited. Because of the placement of trees there is only one spot where I have enough hours of sun to plant tomatoes.
I know that ideally, I should "rotate crops", however, that is really is not an option. The only other spot that I could plant tomatoes this year had potatoes last year and I have read in more than one place that you "should never plant tomatoes where you have previously planted potatoes."
So.. Im wondering if there is anything I can and/or should to to prepare the soil in last year's tomato bed for this years tomatoes in order to give them their best shot?
THANKS!!
