The EPA banned CCA (arsenic treated) treated lumber some time around December 2003.

Owing to its high level of arsenic, CCA lumber should not be used in raised beds etc. due to arsenic leeching.

However, it is also no longer available to the consumer.

The "new" pressure treated lumber (ACQ) is is extremely corrosive to metal fasteners such as nails, screws, deck hangers, etc. so decks, etc. constructed of ACQ lumber need a special fastener to remain structurally sound.

I have seen nothing indicating that ACQ treated lumber is harmful to humans or livestock (except fish), and would be interested if such exists.
