Re: Growing Persimmons

This is the second year that I've had a good number of developing persimmons, which mysteriously disappear. What starts out looking like g generous yield ends up with less than a dozen ripe fruit. The branches are drooping one day and the next day most of the immature fruit is just plain gone. I'm not talking about the small fruit that the tree casts off. I have an Icky Japanese persimmon that is about 6 years old in a small fenced in back yard. There is no damage to the tree branches and the fruit that remain are mostly on the lower branches. We've had lots of rain this year and the tree looks happy, but I don't think there are more than a half dozen fruit left. I don't see squirrels, but I know there is a chipmunk. Will they steal unripe fruit??? I know that they plant sunflower seeds in the garden and steal crocus bulbs. I would appreciate any suggestions.
