I have 3 plants in deep pots and one of them is growing taller than I've been able to stake it. I guess I'll just let it droop back over the original cage top now.
I'm wondering if it's the variety of tomato (Brandywine Red) since the other two are not bolting this way.
I do have a good tip on keeping the caterpillars off the plants which I'm going to use next year. You need to cut the bottom and top off of a half gallon plastic milk carton. Push it down into the soil around the tomato when you first plant it so that two thirds of the carton extend above the soil. Caterpillars will not climb up this surface to get to the plant. A large can will work the same way.
