Heritage Tomato Plant

Re: Straw Garden

How many bales of straw did you use? Did you set them up on their ends and then open them up? Can you set them with the string flat on the ground then add compost to the top of the bales? I have some bales I have used for a compost bin I want to use them to plant in this spring. Trying to figure out the best way to do it.
